The more we specialize in astrology, the more we notice some patterns. Today, we will identify the main zodiac signs of the most famous serial killers. As far as we can tell, this subject has been tirelessly studied for decades now.
Well, the building blocks that make serial killers are still elusive, since the most perceptive and educated psychiatrists, academics, and criminologists in the world can’t seem to find the secret of what would make someone so cruelly aggressive.
Since this strange breed of violent criminals remains high, and since we now deal with a surge in fascination for true crime, we thought that now was the best time to delve into the matter. So we couldn’t help but wonder if some of the most well-known serial killers were fiery Leos or meticulous Libras.
To understand each and every sign and how it might be overrepresented among some of the most notorious killers in history, we decided to study and tell you what we’ve found out.
The usual suspects
We have four signs: Cancer, Pisces, Sagittarius, and Scorpio on our list of usual suspects. Why? As it turns out, they account for almost 40 percent of serial killers. Gemini and Taurus combined account for only 11 percent, so we can’t really rely on any of those theories that Geminis are either two-faced or backstabbing, even in their most literal sense. Killers born as Capricorns accounted for more victims in total and on average than those in any other sign.
If we’d put them in the same bucket, we could say they killed over 800 people or 19 on average. The lowest average was for Virgo killers, who only had seven victims each. But don’t sleep on the water signs! Oh no. Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio accounted for the highest number of killers and victims in our analysis, with 28 percent of killers and 27 percent of victims.
The most common signs of serial killers
Out of all the serial murders included in our analysis, a couple of sun signs dominated this list. There were no less than 46 each of Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio, and Sagittarius, which makes them by far the most common denominator among serial killers.
The least common ones were Taurus and Gemini, which were tied to 27 each. Altogether, the four top signs account for 38 percent of all serial killers included in this analysis, as the bottom two accounts for only 11 percent.
But prolific serial killers such as Jeffrey Dahmer, or the “Son of Sam” Sam Berkowitz are both Geminis. Plenty of people who follow astrology won’t be as shocked to know that Scorpios are at the top of the list.
Why? Well, it is alleged that the sign’s biggest weakness includes violence, manipulation, as well as jealousy. On a very similar note, Pisces are prone to allowing their outer emotions to run out of control, as Cancer might feel a bit isolated since they are unable to blend in with the world around them, and Sagittarius approaches life with no filter on their words or actions.
Zodiac signs least likely to kill
The killers on this list accounted for a minimum of 5,125 murders. It’s fairly important to note here that we did use legally proven or generally agreed-upon numbers when it comes to how many people each person murdered.
However, many serial killers are nevertheless suspected of more deaths than authorities have been capable of proving. Taurus is known for being very stubborn, possessive, and uncompromising. It might be surprising to see that sign at the bottom of the list, at least when it comes to the total number of victims of Taurus serial killers. Even if Taurus is stubborn, they are also quite emotional and tender.
If you are looking at the number of people murdered by each sign, we can clearly see that Capricorn killers are way deadlier than any other signs and that Virgos account for the fewest average victims per killer.
Capricorns are well-known for being disciplined and having good self-control. That’s probably one of the reasons why serial killers who are born in this sign might be fighting their nature. But Capricorns are also known for being rigid, especially when it comes to forcing others to conform to their values. They are also quite quick to respond with a lot of defensiveness, as well as being prone to secrecy.
Deadliest U.S. killer by zodiac sign
From an international perspective, the deadliest killer included on this list is Harold Shipman, a UK physician who is believed to have murdered over 200 patients between 1975 and 1998 by injecting them with some form of medical heroin, then falsifying their medical records to make it seem like they were in poor health.
Shipman was convicted of 15 murder counts, and later on, he decided to take his own life in prison. Shipman is one of the 42 Capricorn serial killers on this list. Samuel Little is yet another deadly American serial killer on this list.
Before his death in 2020, Little confessed to 93 murders between 1970 and 2005, even if only 61 victims had been confirmed by that point. Since Little constantly frequented vulnerable groups, like sex workers and people who were addicted to drugs, many of the murders weren’t seriously investigated, which makes it difficult to link the killings to Little consistently. He is one of the 46 killers on this list with a Cancer sun sign.
Aquarians made it to the list, too
Aquarians are known to be exceptionally conceptual and very independent in their way of thinking. They follow their own internal compass above everything else, which can often lead them to astounding success and garner the admiration of those around them.
Some of their worldly traits might also push them in the wrong direction. For instance, their outsider mentality, love for the greater good philosophy, and susceptibility to conspiracy thinking are some of the factors that make them skillful killers. Some of the most notable examples are:

- Robert “The Butcher Baker” Hansen
- Joel “Joel the Ripper” Rifkin
- Gary “The Green River Killer” Ridgway
- Luis “La Bestia” Garavito
Sagittarius is adventurous in all the wrong ways
Sagittarians are quite infamous for their sense of adventure. Sometimes they can be cruel, and blunt, lack emotional reasoning, and constantly crave attention. Since Sagittarius is generally described as the friendliest and most outgoing person at the party, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the most notoriously charismatic criminals, like Ted Bundy, were born under the Archer sign. Here are some of the most well-known Sagittarius serial killers:

- Edmund “The Co-Ed Butcher” Kemper
- Dennis “The Monochrome Man” Nilsen
- Raymond “The Lonely Hearts Killer” Fernandez
Scorpios are….well, vengeful
Some might be surprised to find out that Scorpio isn’t all that high on this list, since they got all this bad reputation for their tendency towards possessiveness and paranoia. Well, their paranoid inclinations might be due to the fact that they see and sense too much in people.
They are aggressive when it comes to getting what they want, and they will obsessively pursue their wishes. Even so, it seems that when a Scorpio turns bad, they show more adeptness for manipulation and cult-like control. Charles Manson is the best example of a Scorpio serial killer with similar tendencies.
